Agile Learning Tour

Exploring how space supports good pedagogy

Melbourne - Australia
29 March 2017 (PYP Visits - optional)
30-31 March 2017 (Agile Tour)

The Tour

2-3 days of collaboraton,
visits and workshops
29 March - PYP visits
30-31 March - Agile Tour
Melbourne

We all know that creating powerful learning spaces isn’t just a matter of ‘stuffing them’ with a few wobble stools and some colourful beanbags.

This tour has been especially designed to provide you with opportunities to explore how others have used their school learning environments to enhance teaching and learning at their school.

We have selected innovative schools that have explored this area in depth.  Some have re-purposed existing spaces, others have designed purpose-built spaces from scratch. Whatever your context, there will be many ideas to get you thinking about how to best use learning spaces back at your own schools.

School visits will lead into a dynamic, interactive workshop with Dr Ben Cleveland from the Melbourne University – School of Design.  Ben will assist you to examine your school’s educational philosophy and pedagogical vision to create diverse and purposeful settings for rich learning at your school.

We know that you will enjoy the opportunities these school visits and workshops present.  It is our desire that you will return to your schools both challenged and inspired to make positive changes, so that the learning environment best supports student learning.

Helpful Information

Helpful Information

  • Social Media: We would love you to use the LSALearn Facebook page or the Twitter hashtag (#lsalearn) to share your learning with other colleagues back at your school and/or in our system who have an interest in this area/tour.  However, we ask that you keep posts to reflections about the learning and (should you have the desire) save the social aspect of the tour for your personal Facebook page.

  • Dress code: We would respectfully request that you would wear neat, casual attire and footwear suitable for short bursts of walking.

  • Name tags: Please bring your name tags to wear while visiting schools.

  • Dietary Information:  We have tried as far as we are able, to accommodate all dietary requirements, both on the road and at the dinner.  You may wish to travel with a bottle of water, although a bottle of juice and bottle of water is supplied each day for each participant. Good coffee is going to be hard to source en route, so you might like to ensure you have had your coffee fix prior to boarding the bus.

  • Transport by bus: A bus has been organized to and from the CBD on all 3 days of the tour. Should you wish to meet us at the schools instead of the Clarion in the morning, please advise using one of the mobile numbers below. The same driver will be with us all day and shuttling us between venues, so your belongings will be secure - should you choose to leave possessions on the bus between visits.

  • Contact: In case you need to make contact outside of the hours we are all together, please feel free to phone Tori (0427 631 751) or Mignon (0412 484 262).

Reflection ideas

A great book (as recommended by David Wilksch) called The Space: A Guide for Educators by Rebecca Louise Hare and Dr Robert Dillon has been used to frame possible reflections for the tour.

  • Students as co-designers

    • How has student voice been utilized to ensure spaces are student driven and student-centred?

  • Spaces to collaborate

    • How does the space support collaboration?

  • Spaces to create

    • How have schools used space to support learners to be creative? (Creating can be digital, physical, spatial or experiential.)

  • Spaces to showcase learning

    • How is space use to support learners to share and reflect on their learning?

  • Spaces for quiet

    • How do moments for space to think in peace exist amongst the collaborative and creative spaces?

    • How are learners who need quiet to think and work supported?
